Furnishing IKEA with Geophysics

Nothing it seems can hold up furniture giant IKEA's expansion except perhaps buried foundations from a former power station! When underground obstacles threatened to delay the re-development of the car-park at one of IKEA's largest stores, construction consultants RG Group called in Met Surveys to help.

Major obstructions and hence delays were a big problem for our construction teams in the early phases until we appointed Met Surveys to carry out a GPR survey for the remainder of the works. says Matt O'Malley, Project Manager for the RG Group.
Conducting work over several night shifts to minimise disruption to the store's opening hours and customers, the geophysics team undertook a ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey across the car park and access roads.

Met Surveys provided us with drawings in paper and electronic format that identified all remaining underground obstructions, Matt continues.

This enabled us to resource the works accordingly using appropriate plant and equipment to deliver the project on time and within budget. The service provided by Met Surveys is first class and we would recommend them for future work.
